Where Yankee Fans And Their Bomber Buddies Come To Talk Baseball...

Yankees Sweep Blue Jays

It is a good thing we swept the Blue Jays now because next time around I suspect they are going to be a whole lot tougher.  The Jays tried to salvage the game with formet Met/CyYoung Winner R.A.Dickey on the bump but the Yankees held in there until he gave up the lead and took the game and swept the series 3-2 in 4 games.

Brennan Boesch homered in the second and Lyle Overbay sent a knuckleball from R.A. Dickey into the right field bullpen for a go-ahead, two-run homer in the seventh inning in the Bomber Victory.

These no-name Yankees are making a name for themselves and guess what they are playing like a team.

Phil Hughes allowed two runs and seven hits in six innings with a season-high nine strikeouts and one walk. Toronto ran up his pitch count, fouling off 25 of 111 offerings.

YANKEE DOODLES: Yankees 3B-1B Kevin Youkilis was sidelined by a bad back for the sixth time in seven games and will have an MRI Monday. … … Yankees CF Brett Gardner was left out of the starting lineup for the first time this season. He entered the game as a defensive replacement in the eighth. … Yankees just drew 32,000 today.

BTB in-game report as reported by Scoops Monaco in section 419.

Francisco Cervelli, Steve Donohue, Joe Girardi

  • The Yankees report Cisco Cervelli’s injury is a fractured right hand and will require surgery. He will miss a minimum of six weeks. Cervelli suffered the injury when he was hit by a foul top off the bat of Toronto’s Rajai Davis in the top of the first inning.
  • Ivan “No Go” Nova left tonight’s game in the third inning with right elbow pain. He has been scheduled for a MRI tonight.  He was replaced by David Phelps who may have inadvertently landed him self a starter’s role.
  • Austin Romine coming up to take Cervelli’s roster spot.
